Super Bowl Countdown ... Pickle Soup?

Having a few folks over for the Super Bowl?  How 'bout an in a pickle Souper Bowl Party?

Yep we're putting our best products on the 50 yard line and serving them up for our fans.

This week you'll find a recipe that we found called Pickle Soup.  Our test kitchen hasn't tried it out yet but we're going to... so if you dare... punt and try this recipe... go ahead... Let us know if you do!  AND we'll let you know when we serve it up too ... the in a pickle way with our sweet and spicy Originals and our Bread and Butter chunks!  I mean pickle soup... we hear it's a Polish delight.  Any Polish Pickle Peeps out there???

in a pickle Souper Bowl
Ingredients:
3 pork chops on the bone
5 large red potatoes, peeled and cubed
2 carrots, peeled and chunked
2 jars of in a pickle Originals or Bread and Butter chunks, drained (reserve pickle juice)
1 tsp of dried parsley
3 bay leaves
1 tsp sea salt
1 can chicken broth
cream

Boil pork chops in large soup pot until meat falls off the bone, skimming the fat periodically.  When the meat is fully cooked remove the meat and bone and set aside.  Strain the broth removing any remaining fat.  Add the can of chicken broth, potatoes, carrots and pickles and bring to a boil.  Add the dried parsley, bay leaves and sea salt.  Simmer until the potatoes and carrots are tender - Separate the meat into small portions and reintroduce into the soup along with a small amount of pickle juice to taste and enough cream to slightly thicken the mixture.  Bon appetit pickle peeps!

Korean's In A Pickle

Our Original sweet and spicy pickles traveled across the pond to Korea last month with our friend Matt Schroeder.  Matt's an accomplished connoisseur of sweet and spicy and can't get enough of our Originals!

Hyeeun Yoo and Sunah Noh our newest pickle peeps were at lunch with Matt and his wife Sheri at a Korean chicken restaurant when they pulled out the chopsticks... and the pickles!  Koreans are known for spicy underlings from kimchi to veggies... and our sweet and spicy gems fit right in!

Thanks! Matt for sending us this snapshot.

Rain, Baseball, and New Friends Too!

Well the rain put the Texas Rangers in a pickle this weekend - when the deluge postponed their game with the A's and put them into a double split on Sunday.

The wet stuff was definitely a game changer for a lot of events this weekend in the Fort Worth-Dallas area...the White Rock Local Market, as well at Saint Michael's Market was rained out... but look for us next time... Hey, you know though... we are all about being in a pickle ... because we know what to do if one is in a pickle... think smart, drink smart ... and eat in a pickle foods' products ... ahhh... life's greatest moments truly do start when you're in a pickle...

We did have a great time on Sunday at a new venue in Dallas called the Knox Strass Urban Market.  The neighborhood folk at Knox (Karen gives a shout out!!!) is really changing it up a bit with a European Flair.  We sold pickles and our artisan jams along side a bier garten, music and art... we made some new friends ... those we can now count as Knox Pickle Peeps...

And we can't forget our new pickle peeps down south in Meridian and Clifton at the Red Caboose Winery and vineyard...

yep they were grape stompin' in September when we took our sweet and spicy Originals down.

AND what a combo when you throw a little in a pickle artisan jam down on a cracker add a bit of chevre... top that off with an award winning Cab featured at Red Caboose and your in the money... babyyyyy!  Woo Hoo!

New friends, new pickle peeps and life's greatest moments that's a great way to kick off our fall!  So don't get in a pickle unless you're in it with us... knee deep and pickle proud!

...Don't forget, the holidays are creepin' up fast... make your list and check it twice... we've got Peach Cinnamon Jam, Apple Bourbon Cinnamon Jam, Whole Fig Preserves and lots more to stuff your stockings !

We be jammin'

When you think of jam, perhaps you think of a traffic jam... Did you know that in 2010, China was crowned the unofficial "host" of the largest traffic jam ever recorded??  The cars stretched for more than 62 miles (100 km) and lasted for 12 days!  The traffic jam occurred on the Beijing-Tibet Expressway near Beijing and was caused by trucks carrying construction supplies to Beijing to ironically help ease traffic on the Expressway!

OR maybe when you think of jam you think of Pearl Jam...  the rock band that was formed in Seattle, Washington in 1990... they were one of the first alternative rock bands...

OR maybe you think of preserved fruit... the making of preserves, jellies and jams reportedly began centuries ago in the Middle East and according to the International Jelly and Preserve Association, "It is believed that returning Crusaders first introduced jam and jelly to Europe, in fact the use of cane sugar to make jam and jelly can be traced back to the 16th century when the Spanish came to the West Indies where they preserved fruit.."

So we here at in a pickle foods didn't invent the wheel BUT we are sure dressing it up!
in a pickle foods' jams and pickles

Maybe you've tried one of our artisan jams made in small batches ... Apple Bourbon Cinnamon Jam; Lemony Pear Vanilla Bean Jam; Orangy Fig Jam; Sweet and Spicy Tomato Jam;  Spicy Satsuma Orange Lemon Marmalade;

Wild Citrus Grape Jelly; Peach Cinnamon Jam; Blueberry Lime Jam; Peach Chocolate Jam; Strawberry Vanilla Bean; Fig and Lemon Preserves OR some other in a pickle foods' product that wets your whistle!

Let us know here...  AND tell us what you think should be our next big jammin' product! We'll take a tally and publish your comments here and on facebook.

In a Pickle AND need some product???  Just mosey on over to our web page at inapicklefoods.com and give us a shout out!

Happy Birthday

Wow!  It's hard for us to believe that it has been three years since we sold our first pickle!  What a journey we've taken and what a lot of great people we've met along the way!

From the first pickle jar of our Original Sweet & Spicy pickles to our newest artisan batch of Rum Peaches and Cream jam...

it's been an incredible road full of ups and downs, fun times and truly in a pickle moments!

This month is special because it's our birthday month and wouldn't you know we are in good company... it would have been Julia Child's 100th birthday month.  Well, in a pickle foods is a long way from boeuf bourguignon but while we were thinking of Julia, and all her delightful inspirations, we thought about how Julia may have used our products.  May we suggest that her BEEF may benefit by substituting that tomato paste with in a pickles' Tomato Jam... and Julia's Egg Burritos?  Well, substitute that pepper sauce with our diced Original Sweet & Spicy Pickles... and Julia's Cherry Clafouti ... yep... in a pickle foods Blueberry Lime Jam instead of the cherries...

So here's a little salute to the larger than life, popular TV chef and author... ahhh... if Julia was still around we bet she would agree... life's greatest moments start in a  pickle!

And... another momentous occasion... the USDA has declared August 5 - 12 as National Farmers Market Week, in order to raise awareness of U.S.  markets... about 8, 000 of them... supporting local food systems and local entrepreneurs like us.

Look for in a pickle at White Rock Local Market and St. Michael's FreshFarm Market.. you can order online, find us at your favorite little shop and if we are not there... ask for us... we'll be the ones with a party hat on in August!

Just call us the partyin' pickle peeps!    Happy Birthday to us... Happy Birthday to us...
